One Year.
Happy 1st Birthday snacktimemom! It's hard to believe that a year has gone by already. I am having so much fun blogging, thank you all for listening. Stay tuned for a fabulous 2014.
Winter Care Package
I put this little care package together for my niece who is a freshman in college. We don't get to see her as much these days since she is a couple hours north of us, so I thought a box would be a fun surprise for her. I am calling this a Winter Care Package, since we are in the dead of winter, and it can seem a little daunting after a few months. Do you have someone special in college, or far away that deserves a little package?
In this box:
Organic Hot Cocoa
Swiss Milk Chocolate
Burt's Bee's Chap stick
Hand Sanitizer
Whipped Body Lotion
Coconut Sugar Scrub

Whipped Body Lotion
I have been wanting to make a body butter for awhile now. This actually came out more like a lotion consistency, but I'm okay with it. It was so much fun to make, and I love the finished product. There is definitely some trial and error when you first attempt this, but it is all a learning experience right? Stay tuned for more posts like this one. I feel like a good lotion is essential for Maine winter survival.
You will need:
1 c. Organic Shea Butter
1/2 c. Organic Coconut Oil
1/2 c. Almond Oil
20 drops essential oil
Method:
Melt Shea butter and Coconut Oil in double boiler.(I use a glass bowl inside a medium saucepan.)
This lotion makes my skin feel so soft. I love how my skin absorbs it instantly. Dry winter skin, I think so. Just remember, a little goes a long way.

Once completely melted, set aside to cool for 30 minutes. Once cooled, add the almond oil and essential oil to the shea butter mixture. I used pomegranate essential oils. It is rejuvenating and helps with skin's firmness, and elasticity. Us mom's need all the help we can get. :) Chill in the freezer for about 45 minutes. This is an important step. Keep checking to see if your mixture has begun to solidify.
(Sorry I do not have a photo for this step. For some reason this particular photo will not load.)
Once it has begun to set, whip the mixture with a hand mixer, until the mixture has this appearance of whipped frosting. It looks amazing. I used my stand mixer at first, but then switched to my hand mixer to gain better control. If your mixture does not whip enough, return it to the freezer for another 10 minutes or so, and re-whip it with the mixer. Mine looks like this:

School Lunch
My father's birthday was this past weekend, so we had a pizza party. Why not pack some cold pizza for Monday's lunch. B loved it. The fresh organic mango and strawberries really make this lunch delicious. B came home asking for more strawberries. I wish they were a little less expensive though. $4 for strawberries is ridiculous. Annie's cheddar crackers, and yogurt covered raisins complete this lunch.
It looks like we will get a lot of snow today. They are predicting 8-10 inches here. I think we will spend the day organizing the craft closet, snuggling in jammies, and lots of playing. What do you like to do on a snowy day?

Vacation Fun
We are back from vacation, and all settled in. Our week in Florida was fabulous. The kids had a blast, and lots of memories were made. I was so impressed by how well behaved the kids were. They did a great job on the plane, and on our daily outings. Disney World is extremely over stimulating, and exhausting, but we all made it out alive. :)
If you read my post on vacation packing, you will be pleased to know that the gallon Ziploc bags were a fool proof way to go. It was almost too easy to hand the boys their bag of clothes each morning. No drama, and no fighting. I will pack that way for every trip. Now that we survived our Disney Vacation my mind is already planning the next trip. I'm not sure where it will be exactly, or when, but it will be great. Below are just a few pictures from our trip.

Vacation Packing
We are headed to Florida at the end of the week so I have been busy packing for everyone. Traveling with kids can be a challenge so endless activities, and snacks for the plane seems like a practical idea. They both have Leap Pads, which we will bring. ( I highly recommend these, they are great little learning tablets.) The boys got coloring kits, new crayons, and a new coloring book for Christmas. I picked up a new sticker book for both of them that will be a surprise once they open their carry on while on the plane.
I searched around online to find a fool proof method for packing kids. These gallon sized Ziplocs seem like they will work perfectly. I packed a complete outfit in each bag. Each morning I can just hand the kids their bag of clothes, and they can get dressed without having the hassle of mixing and matching away from home. As you know I am not a fan of plastic baggies, but these will definitely be reused over and over.
We are so excited for our trip. I can't wait to have my family together in the sunny south for a week. *I will return to blogging on Monday February 3rd. Stay warm.

School Lunch
This lunch was from a week or so ago. Today there is no school since it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I have been in busy mode lately getting ready for our Florida vacation I have not made any time for homemade snacks and treats. My goal for the month of February is to experiment with soaps, creams, and lip balms. I have wanted to work on those projects for a while now.
In this lunch:
Ham, Cheese, Spinach Pita's
Annie's Bunny Snack Mix
Cucumbers
Kiwi
Animal Cookie
